The art of traveling light is an acquired skill. Packing for a weekend getaway seems all too simple on the surface. But in reality, short journeys present the challenge of well prepared wardrobe and a keen eye to pack all things necessary. We all love having options, but for short trips, embrace the freedom of the no-fuss wardrobe! Here are my favorite tips for making sure all your must-haves fit in a hand language.
Rule number 1.
Pack your heavy items like jeans, sweaters and jackets first, at the bottom of the bag. I start with my jeans and leather trousers, then place the sweaters and jackets following the t-shirts and tank tops.
Rule number 2.
Have shoes bags for each pair you bring along. I would suggest maximum 2 pairs plus one you already wear. One casual one formal. The second casual is always just in case the first makes blisters due to long walks – in business exhibitions or sightseeing! Having a separate bag make them fit anywhere and speaking of women shoes, high hills do not want to be squished! I have my high hills in separated bag for that matter, so them don’t get scratched as well!!! + get your slippers packed not all hotels give you some. Its a matter of hygiene.
Rule number 3.
Have a laundry bag with you. It takes no space and leave the rest of the bag untouched and in case of an airport check you are not embarrassed to open it while your dirty undergarments fell off!
Rule number 4.
Have a cosmetic pouch with you that can feet all 10/100ml packages of liquid aloud in it and keep it in your hand language at all times. No-one wants to open a fully packed suitcase especially at the return flight having some shopping made!! Who is going to swear to close it at his own risk? 🙂
Rule number 5.
In case you stay that extra day and have to carry a blowdryer with you, buy yourself a light one and in a compact size. I would suggest to avoid getting one in 2-3 days trips. A simple hair straightener is a better solution to refresh your hair due to humidity and takes less space.
Rule number 6.
Do not take shampoo, conditioner, oil, shower gel, body creams for such sort trips. All hotels provide them! If you do so they will fill your cosmetic pouch and you won’t be able to have your face cosmetics plus deodorant and perfume! If you are in need of one you can get yourself one from the local store or get a sample from the cosmetics department! Plus + these stuff weight a lot!!! I remind you the 8-10 kg you are aloud to have as a hand luggage!!!
Rule number 7.
Since you are a regular traveler, get yourself a four wheel hand luggage. DO NOT carry one at your shoulder or back! Most airports are big enough for you to carry any weight added! The four wheel luggage just needs you to push it. You can put your hand bag on it and your duty free bags too. It is the most necessary thing to have. Remember to check the dimensions and try to buy the lightest one! Maximum length 56 cm, width of 45 cm and depth of 25 cm, including wheels, handles and external pockets.
