How did you meet Audrey Hepburn? Thanks to Gladys de Segonzac, who ran a big film production. Billy Wilder, the director wanted Audrey to be dressed like a Parisian for his next film. The film was Sabrina.
Why release this collection of unpublished sketches? I wanted to make a little Sketch Book to remember all the marvelous years that we spent working together.
Which illustration do you think best emulates the personality and style of Audrey Hepburn? All of the 30 or so sketches from the book are dresses that were created for Audrey. Dresses for her films, as well as dresses that she wore in day to day life.
What was the first film that you designed Audrey’s costume? Sabrina, it was about twelve outfits for that film, and after that, Funny Face.
Did you prefer to create her stage outfits or day wear? I am indifferent, dressing her was always a joy.
Will Audrey Hepburn always be your muse? Audrey was my friend, first and foremost, for me she represented elegance, kind-hearted nature, grace and beauty.
Who do you think will be the next Audrey Hepburn? Nobody. Audrey is incomparable! Her influence is always there and it will stay with us forever.
