Interior designer Kelly Hoppen is best known for bringing a sense of calm to UK homes. The designer has an instantly recognisable trademark style, based on the subtle, soothing combinations of subdued colours. Taupes, stones, whites and greys are layered up in her sophisticated schemes to provide a backdrop to strikingly simple items of furniture and few adornments.
We really love Kelly’s advice to the reader baffled as to how to get started – “When working on a blank canvas, think of your home as a theatre production,” she says, advising the homeowner to think about the entrance as the first place guests will see, and using it as a template for the rest of the design.
And for anyone still concerned that beige and taupe equal a personality-free home, Kelly offered some interesting food for thought. “I’m a firm believer that you should be the most interesting thing in your home,” she advises, “so don’t overshadow your personality with things intended to represent your personality.” We couldn’t agree more.
